It has been quite a while since our last blog post. It is one of those things that you really want to do but it just keeps getting pushed to the back burner by more pressing things. Anyway, the time has come for a farm update.
As I write, the Olympics are going on. Seems like a good time to share this picture:
Each year the kids like to compete in the doghouse jump! Since this photo was taken, the kids have been moved out of the main pasture for a while for weaning. Two of the doelings were sold so there are just (just!) seven out there now.
The kids make short work of the greenery so they are moved as often as we can manage it. Kori is a huge help when she can come home and operate Bob to move the fence panels.
The pigs are really growing fast this year. Raising pigs is not without athletic competitions as well - this group likes to race! On a couple of occasions that racing landed them outside of their authorized area. This one made a break for freedom but got distracted by a puddle by the driveway - Got ya!
They do enjoy a mudbath on a hot day but it is best if they enjoy that activity inside their paddock!
Chick troubles continued as we lost a another bunch when I inadvertently closed a skunk up in the coop overnight. This is our latest hatch - this mama hen has six little ones to watch over. Mimsy makes her nervous but she knows better than to mess with with a hen. Hopefully these little ones will have a better outcome than the last did.
The grain will be harvested very soon and the hayshed is stocked with hay. Everyone helps with the hay harvest - even Ardis was pressed into service one hot day to drive the tractor while Rollie raked and Kevin stacked.
It was steamy!
We are having a great summer at the market and did a couple of events in June as well. This was our set up at Arts In The Park in Brainerd on June 30. Kori and I had fun at this event as a large amount of people come through.
We are also doing very well with our soap and lotion in a new store in the the busy town of Crosby. Here is our display at Smith + Trade Mercantile.
And that is your update. Sorry it's been so long, I will try to do better. Until the next blog post, be well friends!
